Now in my case the first portion of the new KB cure (BCDEDIT boot options) was already set correctly but the second part, running regedit, loading the target system hive and editing the HKLM p2v ControlSet001 services LSI_SAS start which I found initially set to 3 and changed to 0 per the KB. Rebooting without the install image then took me to the failed start screen but instead of choosing repair at that stage I chose 'start windows normally' and voila! It started and ran normally just as it had on the original physical machine.
Check out that configuration of the ODBC Data Source used for connection to the database of vCenter is alright. Also check out that “VMwareVCMSDS” service is running before you start “vCenter Server”. There are also many other ways to fix this issue.

I've tried to use the client to configure the machine that was copied over, and it fails with the same error. The VM is a Windows 7 desktop. I can boot the VM normally and as far as I can tell it works fine, but I'm worried that its missing something that will cause problems down the road. I've copied several different virtual machines and I've had this problem 4 out of 6 times. Does anyone know where this. Vstor2-mntapi20 file is located and what it is for?
I had to run the converter on a third piece of hardware while the servers were up and running, installing the converter agent service on them (AKA 'hot clone'). SBS server had two volumes, and the total used disk space was around 40GB. Terminal Server had two volumes and used disk space was around 25GB.

If there are vmware-ufad-p2v-XXXXX subdirectories remaining under%SystemRoot% on the remote source physical machine after completion of the import (either successful or failed), automatic cleanup was not totally successful, and might cause future import attempts to fail. To clean up manually (recommended), follow these steps: 1. Launch regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services 2. Remove the stcp2v30 key 3.
Delete all vmware-ufad-p2v-XXXXX keys. Delete all courier-XXXXX keys. Under the%SystemRoot% system32 folder, remove all vmware-ufad-p2v-XXXXX subdirectories. Last week, I was migrating some physical servers to VMware Server images with VMware Converter tool. I was using the latest and improved version of VMware Converter (v3.0.3 - Build 89816). I had two servers to migrate: one SBS 2003 server and one Windows 2003 based Terminal Server.
Error 29142 when reinstalling VMware vCenter Converter Standalone agent Many administrators use the useful VMware vCenter Converter Standalone tool to prepare (even for testing) tests systems from productions client or servers. This tool is very stable but sometimes, after we have installed the agent, ran the P2V or V2V conversion and checked that the VM has been created successfully, we could have the need to re-run this conversion from the same system (previously we have used the option Automatically uninstall the files when import succeeds). Error 29142 when reinstalling VMware vCenter Converter Standalone agent If we have used the Automatically uninstall the files when import succeeds option the first time that we have converted a remote system (or remote VM) and then we repeat the same process on the same system we could have the error 1.603 during the remote agent deploy. If you uninstall Converter Standalone Agent from a Windows Server 2008 or Vista 64-bit machine and do not restart it, a subsequent Converter Standalone Agent installation (using the VMware-Converter-Agent.exe found in C: Program Files VMware VMware vCenter Converter Standalone) might fail with the following error message: Error 29142 unable to start vstor 2 mntapi 1.0 driver. Solution: Restart the Windows Server 2008 or Vista machine and try installing Converter Standalone Agent again. Using VMware-Converter-Agent.exe on the remote system (to convert in VM) the “server” will not ask you anymore to uninstall the agent.
Does anyone have an idea on what is causing the error? I had this exact issue on a windows 7 32-bit physical machine doing a PtoV. Sadly the /3 GB switch was not set on the physical machine so that fix did not apply. Later after trying various permutations and combinations I found that when I reduced the CPU count on the target to 1 it failed at a different place which led me to this other KB: This new KB glibly says in step 6 to 'Click the command prompt' but at that stage there was no command prompt to be found.
Keygen generator. • Ensure conversion reliability through quiesced snapshots of the guest operating system on the source machine before data migration. • Enable non-disruptive conversions through hot cloning, with no source server downtime or reboot.
Instead at that point you are presented with a system recovery options dialog with two choices: • User recovery tools that can help fix. • Restore your computer using a system image. Plus a Load Drivers button. This had me frustrated and baffled for a while until I found how to get to the command prompt: If you choose the second choice 'Restore your computer using a system image.' It will return a dialog about not being able to find a system image. Cancelling out of that takes you to a 'Select a System Image Backup' dialog and then cancelling out of that takes you to a System Recover Options dialog with 5 choices, the last being the sought after Command Prompt.
