After high school I moved on to WMPI in southern Indiana but it was my Army MARS experience that eventually brought me into the Signal Corps in 1974. I spent most of my Army days in Greece at a nuclear weapons facility during the Cold War. I later moved on to other vocations but have always had a keen interest in radio communications. Those experiences and knowledge gained from my hobby have often been valuable to me in my career. And it all started with a second hand portable radio. Who would have thought it?
In a round about way, that radio led me to my first job, age 15, at WBLO in Evergreen. The same radio connected me with a high school teacher and later mentor K4VMT. Miller gave me my novice test and I became WN4ZUD. I was never too fond of the code but that novice ticket got me into the Army Military Affiliate Radio System where I could finally operate phone. We were mostly on AM then. The MARS experience was good because it taught disciplined message handling and communications procedures.
Your Icom IC-706MKIIG must be a recent one my IC-706MKIIG is serial 4900 ballpark and I bought it in April of 2000. Judging by the IC-735 production figures mine was in the 29000 region and I bought it in 1991 the 7th year of its production run I think final production figures were close to 40,000 for that rig. Icom 706g is in it's 4th year of production already and is a great little rig.
The IC-7600 received FCC certification on February 9, 2009. FCC ID: AFJ307300. IC-7600 and IC-7700 in my station (March 2009). Salient Points: • 13.8V, 100W-class HF/6m transceiver • 4-pin DC power connector on rear panel • 3 roofing filters: 15, 6 and 3 kHz • Dual Watch * • +30 dBm IP3 • PIN Diode switched RF bandpass filters, common to RX and TX • Single USB port on front (USB thumb drive/keyboard, TBD) • Single USB port on rear (Rig Control) • RTTY/PSK31 Encode/decode • APF/TPF (CW Audio Peak Filter/RTTY Twin Peak Filter) • Separate RX-OUT and RX-IN antenna ports • allowing connection of external preselectors, multicouplers etc. Translation of Icom Japan IC-7600 Press Release by N.

Serial # FT1000MP Tips Serial Numbers - Decoding Serial number format is YMLLUUUU where Y is the last digit of the year, M is the month with C = Jan, D = Feb and so on, LL is the lot number (CPU is programmed by lot number & service bulletins are also referenced by lot number, not date), and UUUU is the unit number within the lot. Barry - W4WB Hi Barry I am having trouble reconciling 1 thing. When I go to menu item 9-8, (FAct-dAt) it comes up 951117c2, which I am assuming was when the radio was made, or at least programmed on Nov 17, 1995.I have no idea what the c2 is for. The Serial Number is 5L030119, which would seem to indicate it was made in October. Could it be that it was manufactured in October, but not programmed until November, small point, but it will surely come up after I post this. You are exactly correct. The 'hidden menu' date is the programming date completion.

Only about 460 were built! They weren't too popular at the time. I can't nail it by S/N, but the model makes me fairly certain I'm right.

That means it's no earlier than a 1963. (That's the 1st year the name 'Kaiser' appeared) 84= CJ6A 22= 'Tuxedo Park Mark IV' Trim * As best as I can figure, the Mark 'IV' was only offered in 1964. It should have: - Chrome front bumper - Chrome hood badges - Windshield clamp catch - Chrome drop down license plate holder - Chrome tail lamps - Hubcap displaying the “Jeep” emblem - Column shift And it's apparently a rare bird!
How to decode Yaesu serial numbers and know exactly when your Yaesu radio was manufactured serial number of 9J271567 Position 1 = year made Position 2 = month made C = January D = February E = March F = April G = May H = June I = July J = August K = September L = October M = November N = December Position 3 and 4 = lot number(s) Position 5 to 8 sequence in that lot Position 1: last digit of the year in which the radio was produced Position 2: Determine the position of the letter in the alphabet (C=3,D=4,E=5, etc) then subtract 2. The result gives the month in which the radio was manufactured. Note that the letters will range from C (January) through N (December). Thus, my FT-817 radio with a serial number of 9J271567 would have been manufactured in 2009 (9), during the month of August (J, August is the 8th month), was part of lot 27, and was the 1567th radio in that lot.
I got the one of the first 80 FT-817s last year and it was Lot 03. One really nice feature of the MP is that you can select what band plan you want from the 9-menu. 73 de Barry __________________________________________________________ All Yaesu radios (not just the MPs) use the following scheme for serial numbers: First digit = year manufactured ('7' = 1997) Second character = month manufactured, beginning with 'C' for January, 'D' for February, etc. Your radio was manufactured in January 1997.
As I recall, the c2 refers to the CPU and SW version. I will verify this by digging through my notes (or do it the easy way tomorrow; I'm ask my tech since he is a certified Yaesu plus the other service tech. Nice having him on my staff should my gear go bad. Also, Lot 00 seems always to go to the Japanese market and often Lots 01 and 02 too.
I think Icom just use the sequential method of serial no#s starting with the first one in production to the last one for the model # I hope that helps 73 Gerry Logged.
