High School Driver Education Information Probably the most common inquiry we receive is whether a 16 or 17 year old can take a “Driver Ed Course” at Matty’s or any other commercial driving school, in order to receive a full, unrestricted Class D license at 17 years old. The answer is “No”. An accredited Driver Education course can only be given by a Department of Education certified High School. These courses are typically 16- week programs, running three hours per week. This is *NOT THE SAME AS TAKING A FIVE HOUR CLASS* and some lessons at a driving school. Without taking the High School 16- week program a student would need to wait until 18 years old to have unrestricted driving privileges. Many public schools still offer Driver Ed courses at a cost.
In order to get this permit, you'll need to complete a state-approved and pass your written test. NOTE: Contact your driver education provider for information about their minimum enrollment age.

The program opened with a poignant video presentation filmed by faculty honoring the graduating class. The video featured administrators and teachers reflecting on their most meaningful memories with the graduates. Marie Palaia, Associate Principal, greeted the graduates with a heartfelt congratulatory message. HANC’s Samuel and Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School welcomed some very special guests to speak with the students. In the ongoing program to bring Israel alive and closer to the hearts of its students, HANC invited representatives from the organization Panim el Panim to share their experiences in the Israeli army.

Along with preparing you for your driver's tests, Driver's Ed will teach you the skills required of safe, responsible drivers.
