How to reset Canon chips.? Remove ink tank from printer, place it in the resetter cradle and gently push it down against the resetter contacts until the ink tank LED flashes. When the LED lights up solid (in few seconds), the reset is finished. The ink level is restored - to full. All you have to do then, is fit it back in the printer - and resume your print job. Note: Not all generic (compatible) chips are 'resettable', but most do reset ok. Some non Canon ink tanks don't have the chip LED, so it may not light up in the resetter.

Hello - Purchased a chip resetter for my Canon 221 tanks. The set of tanks I'm working with are a little over 1 year old. I've refilled them using instructions found here and with genuine Canon ink. But the chip resetter won't work, even though I followed the little instruction sheet to a 'T'.

Should I go for another resetter? Do these tank circuits give out? First of all, you are correct in that it makes no difference on what ink you are using that would affect the resetting of the chip. I am just a stickler on correct information as I have spent literally hours trying to fix a problem only to find that the customer/poster worded their problem in a certain way, omitting vital information that would have resulted in a speedy fix. 123Ink does not sell genuine Canon ink. In fact, they have been named in the most recent Canon lawsuit against companies that sell refills. So, back to the chip resetter.
This doesn't mean the chip doesn't reset. In most cases the chips still reset fine, just without the LED confirmation. Some tanks/chips may only flash once momentarily in the resetter and not light up solid. This still resets the chips ok in most cases. Each Canon chip resetter comes with a removable adapter (see pics) to enable resetting of both the thicker black and thinner photo black and all colour ink tanks.
