The development of Doom started in 1992 when a new 3D engine, the Doom engine, was developed. It allowed the usage of much more realistic 3D graphics than any of the time, dynamic levels and modular data files, which allowed replacing of the game's content, therefore extending the posibilities of the game. Doom had a huge resonance in the gaming community even before it was released. Coming through with a lot of jokes, rumors, screenshots and leaked alpha versions, the game was released by id Software as shareware in 1993 with an encouragement for the further distribution. It was played by an estimated 10 million people within the first two years of its release, becoming a major problem at the workplaces.

There’s no right or wrong way to go shotgun a demon, but in this article we will be focusing on a program called Zandronum. We chose Zandronum for this article since it is still actively developed and has excellent support for multiplayer matches. You can download the latest build of Zandronum. Be sure to select the “Installer (Bundled with Doomseeker)” link. Once the download has completed, double click on the file or choose “Open” or “Run” from your browsers download manager. This will start the installation process.

Tweaking visual quality Zandronum has dozens of options for improving the visual quality of Doom, choosing which options to use often comes down to a matter of taste. Start the program and from the main menu, use the arrow keys and enter to choose “Options”. First of all you should choose a video mode, so move down to “Set Video Mode” and press enter. There are several options to configure on this screen. If you are using a widescreen monitor, make sure that “Aspect Ratio” is set to “16:9”. Renderer should be set to “OpenGL”.

Evil rears its ugly horns once more. While Doom was a revolutionary game, Doom II: Hell on Earth was merely an extension of the previous game’s success. It retains the ‘more is better’ approach that we’ve seen in Wolfenstein’s Spear of Destiny, with the obvious difference that Spear wasn’t marketed as a sequel. As such, you won’t see anything drastically different here – it’s Doom all over again, but with more of the stuff that made it great in the first place. Having sent the armies of the damned back to Hell, you return to Earth for peace and quiet.

Instead of watching the player's progress on a map (as in the original episodes of Doom), the screens between each level simply show a background (as in the bonus fourth episode of Doom available on The Ultimate Doom expansion pack). This also means the player is never forced to lose all of his or her inventory after completing an episode.

While not as highly awarded as its progenitor, it was still named Game of The Year twice and is featured in the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die. This is another one of my favorites that I still own and play. Trust me, play one and then play this one. You won’t regret it. Review by: Tasha Published: 22 January 2017, 10:26 am.

This rare creature holds mastery over death and can resurrect fallen Hell Spawn back into service, though magical interference renders them incapable of returning other Arch-Viles to life; in addition, they cannot return Spider Masterminds or Cyberdemons to the realm of the living, perhaps because even in death they are more powerful than the Arch-Vile performing the incantation. Doom II was not dramatically different from its predecessor. There were no major technological developments, graphical improvements, or substantial gameplay changes. Instead, the development team took advantage of advances in computer hardware since the release of the original game that allowed them to do more with their game engine by making much larger and more intricate levels. The game still consisted of the player navigating large non-linear levels. Each level is infested with demons that can be killed with a variety of weapons that can be picked up throughout the game.

There are gun-toting humans-turned-zombies fighting for their new dark lord and savior, hellish imps and pig demons, invisible specters, flaming skulls known as Lost Souls and big balls of flying terror known as the Cacodemon. As you progress through each of the 30 levels, monsters get bigger, harder to kill and meaner: the Arch-Vile resurrects dead monsters, the Mancubus unleashes fireballs and the Spider Mastermind uses a flesh-ripping super chain-gun. Just when you think you've seen it all, there's a towering Cyberdemon -- he fires heat-seeking rockets -- to destroy. Fortunately, there are a variety of special items and power-ups throughout each level including two types of defensive improvements: the Security and Combat armor.
