I'm not judging, I'm simply pointing out a flaw in your justification. You said you were broke, not me. I'm no expert on Canadian codes, but if you already have the 2 codes in a PDF, why do you need to get a simplified version. If you don't think you make enough where you are I would implore you to look into the IBEW. No it's not theft and I will gladly explain my situation to you since you seem so interested in anything but the question at hand. I have already purchased physical copies of all three books. Now to own the digital version CSA wants me to re-purchase them.

Once again I am forced to buy a book twice. So if you think this comi way of doing business is acceptable, then you need to move on. Lastly, the simplified version is based on residential code only and it's an extremely easy and enjoyable read, unlike the CEC.

It would go a long way to include all three in a pack at reasonable pricing. As a side note, Contractors and FSRs must have access to a current edition of the Canadian Electrical Code, would the APP qualify as access to the current CEC? I do like the idea of having something more useful than the PDF, which is very handy.

The company I work publishes the CEC and is looking at turning the CEC into an app. THe app would the full CEC guide and bulletins, and could have features like search, bookmarks, notes, calculator. Would that be something you'd be interested in/buy? Or would a pdf with smaller page sizes be just as good/useful? You work for the CSA? An APP would be fantastic, but who wants to pay $175 for the print version, plus $175 for the PDF version and then $175 for the APP version?

The PDF is extremely easily copied, when the last code book came out one of the guys spotted a copy floating around on one of the file sharing sites. Thing is every PDF they send you is watermarked with the owners info along the left border of the page. I downloaded it out of curiosity to peruse the changes and think I deleted it a week or two later. Being in Ontario, I much prefer having an actual hard copy of the code book and always buy the OESC.

I received my last two copies about 2 months before they went into effect. I've also got the online subscription to the code and updates which I really like. I can access it from my phone, computer, tablet, its updated automatically and after paying the full price, all future updates or code books only cost me the $35 it does to keep renewing the license ever year. Considering the fact that a 1 year subscription to the updates in any format is at best $60, every year after the first one saves a lot of money. Where do you purchase from? And do the have the same for the O.E.C?

The Code is developed through the efforts of a number of committees representing electrical expertise and knowledge from across Canada and the U.S. The Ontario Electrical Safety Code is law in Ontario, and as such defines the legal requirements for safe electrical installations and products/equipment in Ontario. Changes to the Code are documented on an ongoing basis.
